Viviana Ximenes (1979) is Brazilian, born in São Paulo, the city where she still resides.
In 2005, during a period of study in London, she began her flirtation with art, and it was from this experience that she shaped her perspective on life and the future. She returned to Brazil and it wasn't long before she started painting. With a background in Journalism and Performing Arts, she sought in painting feelings that go beyond her academic journey.
In 2019, already married and with 2 children, she built a small studio in her weekend retreat in the Serra da Mantiqueira mountains.
With the arrival of her third child, which also coincided with the start of the pandemic, she chose to leave São Paulo and, for a year and a half, used the social distancing to connect daily with her artistic creations, close to nature, surrounded by her animals and the silence of the forest. The abrupt break from her city life, combined with her full-time stay in the countryside, became tools and an evolutionary source of inspiration for her creations.
Her work is experimental and free, using monotype techniques with paper cutouts, acrylic paint, crayons, oil chalk, and charcoal, exploring and discovering new paths. She currently has a studio in São Paulo, but whenever possible, she returns to the countryside and relives fond memories of her time there with her daily, routine painting, far from the noise of the city and close to what makes her happiest.
ARTIST STATEMENT
As an artist, I propose a visual dialogue, where the perception of the work lies in the eye of the beholder.
My choice to paint abstractly has always been the most comforting way I've found to express my emotions. I appreciate the imperfect beauties of everyday life, and in this way I conduct a dialogue about my preferences. It would be impossible to express myself with the same affinity I do when I accept spontaneous movements and respond to them as the painting evolves.
I believe that art is part of the exchange between the artist and the viewer, and its interpretation can be made from countless possibilities, bringing to light a unique experience.
My work process is not subject to rigid or pre-established forms; I allow myself to feel and guide the painting freely, accessing my subconscious and experiencing a profound detachment from everyone around me, in order to connect fully with the moment.
I imprint my happiness onto my work. I set aside reason, hoping that the work will find a place in the life of someone who is willing to receive a part of me.
